Marisa Schlichthorst

Born in Germany; living and working in Melbourne, Australia.

Photographer, artist, social scientist and compulsory researcher. My work is driven by an interest in understanding human identity and how identity is impacted by society and constantly challenged and changed by how we interact with the wider world around us. I touch on social, political and environmental issues, challenging and questioning categorisation, stigma and boundaries.

What excites me about photography is the opportunity to instantly grab the viewer’s attention by using pleasing visual language, yet adding an element of confusion, depth and provocation. Playing with perception of reality, my images are often layered, either in meaning or design. I hope to leave the viewer with contemplation and self-reflection.
